Update Agency Assist - Rescue Complete - 02/21/2024 INC#0803

Update - Rescue Complete - Agency Assist; INC#0803; 03:27PM; 10424 W Foothill Bl; https://bit.ly/3SLcQTm; #LakeViewTerrace; Nearly three hours of well-coordinated teamwork by 61 LAFD Firefighters alongside the City's Animal Services' SMART team and Sanitation Department (working alongside an LAFD Heavy Equipment Excavator with vacuum trucks for swift and efficient soil removal) has allowed the safe and successful rescue of "Lucky", a 20 year-old female Paso Fino weighing ~1200 pounds, who suddenly sunk in soft soil that developed into a deep sinkhole in the rear yard of her home shortly after noon today. Lucky has been assisted by the SMART team in slowly walking from the yard, and is soon to be evaluated by an on-site veterinarian. There are no responder or civilian injuries. Though there have been strong rainstorms in that area in recent days and some speculation that the suddenly appearing sinkhole may be related to an old septic system, the specific cause of the sinkhole, and horse becoming trapped, cannot be formally declared by firefighters.; FS 24; Batt 12; Valley Bureau; Council District 7; AO1 AO2 BC12 BC14 CM40 CM42 DT1 E24 E288 E289 E290 E90 EM10 EX2 H6 H7 HA6 HA7 HE1 HR3 PI1 PI2 RA827 RA889 RA91 T87 T88 T89 T90 UR88 UR89; CH8; 17; Brian Humphrey

Update Agency Assist; INC#0803; 02:45PM; 10424 W Foothill Bl; https://bit.ly/3SLcQTm; Lake View Terrace; The swift but delicate rescue effort by 61 LAFD responders continues, working continuously on a rotational basis, in coordination with the City's Department of Animal Services' SMART team, gingerly using hand tools, including shovels and lumber, as well as an LAFD Excavator, to safely and calmly assist "Lucky", a 20 year-old female Paso Fino weighing ~1200 pounds, who remains conscious and alert in minimal to moderate distress, trapped since noon today (in what is believed to be a standing position) up to her chest/neck in very soft backyard soil that became a sinkhole. The first of two or more LAFD lifting straps have been successfully placed beneath her barrel (torso), as the plan continues to use the teamwork of LAFD ground crews - and not an LAFD helicopter, to soundly hoist and guide her free. Update Fatality Traffic Collision; INC#0520; 10:30AM; 17300 W Saticoy St; https://bit.ly/48ntZbo; #LakeBalboa; The pickup that struck the building was from a commercial pest control firm. Because the forceful collision(s) caused that truck's cargo of commercial pesticide *containers* to be ejected alongside the roadway and building, an LAFD Hazardous Materials Squad has been summoned per protocol to survey the scene and assure no actual pesticide *product* has been spilled. Though no escalating or off-site hazard has been identified, the immediate area of the collision has been cordoned off until the LAFD HazMat investigation is complete.
