Structure Fire; INC#1062; 03:18PM; 14060 W Astoria St; http://bit.ly/34w0rbE; Sylmar; Firefighters found a two-story assisted living facility with a dryer fire that was introducing smoke into the hallways. A partial evacuation of the facility is in effect. Residents that were directly affected are being checked out by paramedics. One elevator was stuck trapping at least one person. Firefighters were able to open up the elevator from hallway and free the occupant(s). The fire is out and firefighters are ventilating the building, mechanically bringing in fresh air to replace the smoke. Leak Stopped - Natural Gas Leak; INC#0535; 01:15PM; 17673 W Saticoy St; http://bit.ly/2UykHEZ; Lake Balboa; @SoCalGas experts have now fully stopped the leak (3 hours and 10 minutes after it was first reported). The natural gas fumes have dissipated and LAFD Hazmat experts have identified no ongoing concern. There was no fire, and no one experienced illness or injury. Occupants of the 25 homes, businesses and a house of worship along the one block segment of Saticoy Street east of White Oak Avenue, including the 8 homes on Jellico Avenue just north and south of Saticoy Street will be rehoused shortly. SoCal Gas crews will visit homes in the immediate evacuation area to restore service where natural gas was turned off as a precaution. Update Natural Gas Leak; INC#0535; 12:30PM; 17673 W Saticoy St; http://bit.ly/2UykHEZ; Lake Balboa; @SoCalGas experts are working on site, with additional special equipment en route. The effort to fully stop the leak could take as much as two more hours (~ 2:30 PM?). Though natural gas can be flammable at specific concentrations, LAFD Hazmat experts are using special sensors to monitor natural gas fumes in the community, and have identified no specific concern beyond the initial 500' precautionary zone. There has been no fire, and no one has experienced any illness or injury. Winds remain light and variable. Out of an abundance of caution, approximately 25 homes, businesses and a house of worship along a one block segment of Saticoy Street east of White Oak Avenue, including 8 homes on Jellico Avenue just north and south of Saticoy Street will remain evacuated until the situation is fully controlled. No fire, no injury. Hazard assessment underway to determine if any nearby homes will require evacuation. LAFD will remain at scene until SoCalGas (en route, unk ETA) is able to stop the leak. #LATraffic: Saticoy Street will be closed in both directions between White Oak Avenue and Jellico Avenue until LAFD operations complete, unknown duration. Motorists should expect congestion and delay, avoid the area and consider an alternate route. Detours are readily available.
