Heart Attack Rescue Training (HART)

The Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) is actively promoting Heart Attack Rescue Training (HART). This community outreach program is being implemented in high schools Citywide. The purpose of the HART Program is to train high school students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), instilling in them the confidence necessary to help save a life. An additional benefit is the motivation and inspiration achieved, allowing these students to become an even more positive influence in our community.

The instruction consists of:

An Informative Video Some Lecture Hands On Experience A Comprehensive Test.

Upon completion of the class each student receives a card and brochure issued by the LAFD. Not only do the students learn CPR but they also are taught what to do for someone who is choking.

Question: Do you know the signs of a heart attack, care for heart attacks and first aid for choking ?

It is hoped that classroom exposure to dedicated Fire Department personnel will cause many of these students to consider a career in the medical field or fire service.

The HART Program will be accomplished in five phases. The fifth phase will be completed in the year 2000 with approximately 100,000 students trained yearly.
