FIVE PHASES OF HART
(Phase 1) January, 1996--June, 1996: IMPLEMENT HART PROGRAM IN 6 HIGH SCHOOLS
- Train 360 (11th grade) students at each school in adult
CPR Approximately 2,300 total students trained.
- HOLD 3 classes each day Each class lasts 2 hours Each
class has 60 students
- Spend 2 days at each school
- Each class conducted by: 1 Instructor (Firefighter) 1

HART (Phase 2) July, 1996--June, 1997: IMPLEMENT HART PROGRAM
IN 24 HIGH SCHOOLS
- Expand from 2,300 students to 8,800 students
- Same class schedule as Phase 1
- Each class conducted by: 1 Instructor 1 Instructor Intern

HART (Phase 3) July, 1997--June, 1998: IMPLEMENT THE HART
PROGRAM IN 48 HIGH SCHOOLS
- Begin teaching infant and child CPR as well as adult CPR
- Expand from 8,800 students to 17,500 students
- Hold 2 classes each day
- Each class lasts 3 hours
- Each class has 60 students
- Spend 3 days at each school
- Each class conducted by: 1 Instructor , 10 Instructor
Assistants
HART (Phase 4) July, 1998--June, 1999: IMPLEMENT THE HART
PROGRAM IN 70 HIGH SCHOOLS
- Begin teaching 9th grade students as well as 11th grade
students
- Expand from 17,500 students to 50,400 students
- Hold 2 classes each day for each grade
- Each class lasts 3 hours
- Each class has 60 students
- Spend 3 days at each school for each grade
- Each class conducted by: 1 Instructor, 10 Instructor
Assistants
HART (Phase 5) July, 1999--June, 2,000: FULLY IMPLEMENT THE
HART PROGRAM IN ALL 70 HIGHSCHOOLS
- Expand the HART Program to include all 9th and 11th grade
students
- Expand from 50,400 students to approximately 100,000
students
- Class schedule, class size, and instructor needs have not
yet been determined A task of this magnitude can only be
accomplished through the combined efforts of the Los
Angeles City Fire Department and the contributions of
sponsors.
