Sunday, January 15, 2017
Los Angeles-
At 10:41PM on January 15, 2017 the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 3730 S Edgehill Drive in the Leimert Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a one story, single family dwelling with light smoke showing from the attic.  As fire attack made entry into the home, they found no active fire but a ‘overstuff couch’ smoldering and heavy, cold smoke present in the structure.
Firefighters made their way to the rear of the house and discovered a 53 year old female patient, unconscious. Paramedics immediately initiated lifesaving medical measures while transporting the patient in grave condition.  Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Twenty-eight firefighters, under the command of Battalion Chief Steven Skelley, declared a knockdown in eighteen minutes.  Smoke alarms were present in the home but it is not known if they were functional at the time.  LAFD Arson and Counter Terrorism Section (ACTS) is actively investigating the incident
