  1. How long does Building Standards plan check normally take?

    Building Standards plan check normally takes four (4) to six (6) weeks. To better serve your needs, the Los Angeles Fire Department provides expedited plan check for a fee, with a seven (7) day turnaround.

     

  2. What do I bring for plan review?

    Construction Services requires three (3) sets of plans: one (1) set for the Fire Department: one (1) set for Building & Safety, and one (1) set for your records.

    When you apply for a Division 5 Permit for private hydrants, the Hydrants & Access Unit requires five (5) sets of plans: one (1) set for the Fire Department, two (2) sets for Building & Safety, one (1) set as your main office copy, and one (1) set to be on-site at the new development.

    When you apply for a Division 5 Permit from the Engineering Unit, please bring three (3) sets of plans and specifications.

     

  3. How long does it take to obtain an approved Division 5 Permit?

    Provided that you supply us with the required information, it should normally take us less than one (1) hour. Actual time will vary depending on how busy the counter is.

     

  4. What do you suggest for parking?

    At the Metropolitan Construction Services Center, your parking options are:
    - 30 minutes in the building with validation from the Department of Building and Safety
    - Metered spaces on the streets around the building
    - Parking lot at First Street and Beaudry Avenue
    - City Hall/Civic Center area and shuttle to Figueroa Plaza

    At the Braude Constituents Center in the Valley,
    The Department of Building and Safety provides validation for two hours of parking in the building.

    At the West Los Angeles Constituents Center,
    Parking is available in metered spaces on streets around the building.

     

  5. Where are the City Hall Shuttle stops?

    The City Hall stop is at 1st Street and Main Street. The Figueroa Plaza stop is at Figueroa Street and Diamond Street.
