Faculty
Overview
The faculty represent a diverse array of academic backgrounds with degrees from institutions across the country and professional backgrounds from industry and national laboratories.
This diversity is also clearly evident in the interdisciplinary modern research environment of the department with topics of interest ranging from photovoltaics to internet technologies. Joint and secondary faculty appointments exist with Physics, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science.
Finally, entrepreneurship exists both at the academic training level with joint MSE/business school courses and as intellectual property and start-up companies growing from faculty research.
Research Spotlight
Optical Micro-Spectroscopy for Characterization of Nano-Scaled Materials
We are currently developing a unique microscopy system with integrated laser-based spectroscopy capability to study novel nano-engineered materials for potential optoelectronic device applications. The system is designed to characterize soft- as well as solid-state materials & devices using optical micro-spectroscopy in controlled environments and at temperatures ranging from 4.2 to 1750 K. Its . . .
