James W. Wagner, president of Emory University, is an award-winning teacher and scientist. He earned his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1975 from Delaware and a M. S. (1978) and Ph.D. (1984) from Johns Hopkins. Following a distinguished tenure on the faculty of Johns Hopkins, he served as dean, provost, and interim president of Case Western Reserve University. He has authored more than 115 publications and has served on the editorial boards for several publications. In 2007, he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Johns Hopkins. In 2009, he was elected a Fellow in the AAAS, and, in 2011, received the President’s Award of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators for Region III. Currently, Dr. Wagner serves on the boards of The Carter Center, the Georgia Research Alliance, SunTrust Banks, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education, and the Woodruff Arts Center. In 2009, he was appointed by President Obama as Vice-Chair of the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues.
