There are no new evacuations orders at this time. All existing evacuation orders remain in place. There are still 23,000 homes affected by the evacuation orders. At least 25 structures were destroyed/damaged. An assessment team is working to get a more accurate count. There are now 7 evacuation centers and 5 of them are open. The two new centers are Brandford Rec Center (13306 Brandford St) and Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Rec Center (14201 Huston St). Lanark, Northridge and Granada Hills remain OPEN. Slymar Rec Center and Mason Park are now at capacity and are closed. There has been one minor firefighter injury and one civilian fatality. The only closed center is Sylmar Rec Center. The OPEN centers are Lanark, Northridge and Granada Hills Rec Centers and Mason Park. Update Brush Fire; INC#1582; 08:25AM; Wb 210 Fy; http://bit.ly/2QajYKF; Sylmar; Acreage updated to over 4,700. Over 1,000 firefighters assigned to the incident. The super scoopers and Sky Crane are in operation this morning. At least 25 structures destroyed. No change to the evacuation zones at this time (approximately 12,700 homes affected). One firefighter sustained a minor eye injury. One civilian suffered cardiac arrest and firefighters provided immediate life-saving care, unfortunately he died at the hospital. Firefighters have assisted approximately 100 residents requiring help to evacuate safely. Both Mason Park and Granada Hills evacuation centers and FULL and no longer accepting new residents. Sylmar Rec center remains OPEN. Once daylight comes, a more accurate assessment can be performed. A number of homes have been destroyed by fire but the estimated number is not available at this time. Mandatory evacuation orders remain in effect and are available at https://www.lafd.org/news/saddleridge-brush-fire. This is an extremely dynamic, high wind driven fire and the weather will continue to drive the fire through the night. LAFD has 87 fire companies assigned with assistance from agencies across the region. Additional resources are on order from the state.
