Update Structure Fire 02/13/2019 INC#1398

Update Structure Fire; INC#1398; 09:15PM; 1111 N Broad Av; internal:/; Wilmington; Structure corrected to *one* story home (tall attic); LAFD crews passing by the neighborhood in response to a distant unassociated structure fire saw smoke at location and diverted to discover an unreported working fire; 61 year-old male resident had been outside home (which did not have any functional smoke alarms) when he noted fire and ran unwitnessed inside to battle flames; He was quickly overcome by smoke and collapsed; The first arriving LAFD Engine crew found and rescued the seemingly lifeless man during their initial entry into the heavily smoke charged structure, carrying him from the 1,452 square foot home and providing him with lifesaving care to return his breathing and consciousness (where he later and with some difficulty explained his earlier actions); He has been taken by LAFD Paramedics to an area hospital in serious condition with smoke inhalation and possibly minor burns; NOTE: The LAFD responders that had continued to the distant unrelated fire found a burning food situation with no need for fire department intervention; The cause of the fire on Broad Av remains under investigation. "Never return into a burning home" said LAFD Battalion Chief Daniel Curry, continuing "If you're in a burning building, get low and go by crawling if necessary, to stay beneath hot and deadly smoke. When you get out - stay out!". ; FS 38; Batt 6; South Bureau; Council District 15; - Brian Humphrey
