Update Brush Fire; INC#0901; 06:33PM; 5701 S Lincoln Bl; https://bit.ly/3998uiB; Playa del Rey; KNOCKDOWN: 54 firefighters battled through difficult access and heavy brush to extinguish the fire in two hours with no injuries reported. The fire was held to five acres, kept wholly within the brush area at Ballona Creek. There were no structures damaged. Los Angeles County Fire Department provided one water-dropping helicopter and two hand crews to assist with the operation. Unfortunately, a male patient (age unknown) was found to be beyond medical help and determined dead on scene. This is now a law enforcement death investigation and any questions are referred to LAPD Van Nuys Division (incident number not available). Firefighters defended the exposed homes and prevented any damage. Crews successfully defended the two exposed buildings from damage. LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section is responding for the cause investigation. The majority of LAFD resources are being released with those remaining on scene conducting the final overhaul operation. Address updated (as shown in alert). This is a previous burn location and a partial roof collapse occurred early in the incident. Firefighters have made good progress against the fire and are removing plywood sections to allow better access to remaining pockets of fire without entering the unsafe structure. Update Structure Fire - FATALITY 03/22/2021 INC#1073

Update Structure Fire - FATALITY; INC#1073; 05:35PM; 525 N Sycamore Av; https://bit.ly/3f4tDhO; Hancock Park; Firefighters located an approximately 66 year old male patient in the fire unit, pulled him out and transferred him to paramedics waiting at the exit of the building. The firefighter/paramedics provided immediate advanced lifesaving care for severe smoke inhalation while conducting a rapid transport to a trauma center. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead at the hospital by ER staff. This incident is now under investigation by LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section as is protocol for a fatality fire.
