Fire In Motel Kills One Occupant

Los Angeles-
A small explosion, creating a flash fire in one unit of a motel, killed an adult male in South Los Angeles.
At 8:29PM on Tuesday 17, May 2016, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 8420 S Main St.  Firefighters arrived to find a single story motel with very light smoke showing from one unit on the first floor.  They quickly made entry and found a fire out and an adult male deceased in the room.
Evidence indicated a small explosion caused a flash fire, burning everything in the room and killing the approximately 50 year old man.
Battalion Chief Ellsworth Fortman led the incident with 26 firefighters.  LAFD Arson and LAPD responded for the investigation.
