LAFD Rescues 2, 1 Injured In Massive High Rise Fire In Westlake District

Westlake - Tuesday, April 7, 2015: Los Angeles Firefighters rescued two trapped from a structure fire in a multi-story commercial building at 1543 W. Olympic Bl. at 7:45 p.m

Upon arrival, units reported fire showing from the 5th floor of the building, extending through the roof. Additional companies were immediately requested for fire attack and search and rescue operations. LAFD aerial ladders were positioned strategically to aid in the placement of firefighters on the roof and to affect a rescue of two civilians trapped on the fire floor. The civilians were aided down the aerial ladder and evaluated on scene by LAFD paramedics. One 62 year-old man was treated for smoke inhalation but declined transport to the hospital.

A Major Emergency assignment of 170 firefighters was able to knock down the fire in 1 hour and 20 minutes, confining the bulk of the blaze to the southwest corner of the top floor.

Arson investigators arrived on scene and a cause and damage estimate remains under investigation.
