The top three causes of residential fires are heating equipment, cooking, and electrical malfunctions.  Following these tips reduces the risk of a fire in your home: 

  • Only use one heat-producing appliance (such as a coffee maker, toaster, space heater, etc.) plugged into a receptacle outlet at a time. 
  • Unplug small appliances when you are not using them.
  • If the appliance has a cracked, damaged, or loose cord or damaged controls, replace the appliance.
