KNOCKDOWN Structure Fire; INC#1148; 05:00PM; 2325 W Ocean View Av; https://bit.ly/3qt7cZA; Westlake; KNOCKDOWN: 31 firefighters extinguished fire in one unit on the 2nd floor in 12 minutes with no injuries reported. The fire was being held in check by a sprinkler and crews knocked it down before any extension occurred. The hallways only had light smoke and residents sheltered in place. The fire unit was clear with no occupants found. Cause and $ loss TBD. The bystander who went in the water earlier and required rescue was transported to the hospital with dog bite wounds. The female patient, first rescue, did not require transport. Full River Rescue; INC#0991; 03:11PM; 650 La River; https://bit.ly/3uzy6iO; Sepulveda Basin; LAFD Air Ops tracked the dog and made multiple rescue attempts. The dog was able to run downstream away from the rescuer and continued to fight. Ground resources redeployed down river as the helicopter tracked the dog for a more effective rescue opportunity. Unfortunately, during this time a bystander entered the water. He was able to grab the dog and they then were swept downstream. He was able to grab hold of a rope sent over the side from other bystanders / LAPD (exact source of the rope is unknown at this time). Full River Rescue; INC#0991; 02:40PM; 650 La River; https://bit.ly/3uzy6iO; Sepulveda Basin; A rope system was used to lower one firefighter over the edge and they were able to get a rescue ring to the patient. She abandoned the life ring in efforts to keep hold of her dog. LAFD Air Ops lowered a rescuer from the helicopter and secured the patient and the tracked the dog downriver approximately another 200'. Once the dog was located, a rescuer was lowered and they captured the dog. Unfortunately, the scared animal fought the rescuer and broke loose. The last sighting was at Kester. Firefighters are deploying to multiple predesignated rescue points along the river to conduct rescue operations. The water is estimated to be moving 5-10mph.
