WILMINGTON-

Avoiding the surrounding neighborhood, the pilot of a small plane crashed the aircraft into a large soccer field in Wilmington.

At 12:53PM on September 25, 2023 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to reports of a plane crash at 401 W Westmont Dr in Wilmington.

Firefighters arrived to find a small plane which sustained a high impact crash with one patient visible outside of the aircraft. It was reported that two bystanders onscene when the plane came down, pulled the passenger out of the aircraft.  The pilot was still in the plane and firefighters quickly and safely extricated him. Both patients, (male estimated at 45yo and female estimated at 30 yo) were rapidly transported to the trauma center in critical condition.

The plane, a "Sling TSi", had only the two occupants. Fortunately, there were no injuries to anyone else in the area.  While fuel did leak onto the ground, there was no fire involved in the crash. Firefighters worked with Watershed Protection to ensure safe mitigation of the hazard.

The Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are the investigating agencies.   Upon their request, firefighters disconnected the battery in the aircraft and secured the scene until their arrival.
