Update KNOCKDOWN Gasoline Explosion; INC#0414; 07:45AM; 216 W Slauson Av; http://bit.ly/2Y2NRO5; Florence; Firefighters responded to a call for a smell of gas in the air. Companies arrived on scene to find a 9000-gallon gasoline tanker that was leaking. The fumes came into contact with an unknown ignition source and exploded into flames, forcing firefighters back and exposing nearby structures to flame impingement. 72 firefighters extinguished the blaze in 1 hour and 53 minutes. A two-story single-family home was damaged by fire and one family was displaced from their home. A man-hole cover(s) was displaced when fumes in the storm drain ignited and created underground pressure. Two civilian patients were transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. Arson Investigators are on scene to determine cause. LAFD Hazardous Materials specialists are on scene to mitigate environmental impact and maintain safety for crews still working near the incident. The fuel type was initially reported to be natural gas, but has now been determined to be gasoline. Unknown cause/loss. No reported firefighter injuries.
