Fire Records & Document Requests

The LAFD Records Unit processes requests for fire incident reports, subpoenas, personal appearances, and public records. Find the right request type below and follow its submission steps and fees.

Fire Incident Reports

Medical/EMS records excluded — see Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Records below

$5.50 per report

Record Subpoenas & Personal Appearances

Medical/EMS records excluded

Personal appearance — criminal or juvenile cases

No fee 

Email requests directly to lafd.records@lacity.org

Personal appearances — civil cases

$275.00 — Government Code § 68096.1(b) 

Note: witness subpoenas submitted electronically will be reviewed prior to acceptance.

Personal appearances — government agencies (CA, DA, etc.)

No fee

Subpoenas for LAFD Records

Includes personnel, payroll, Fire Prevention, and Fire Investigation records.

$15.00 deposit 

Arson Investigation Reports

Arson Investigation Reports may only be released once the case is closed and approved for release by the Arson Counter Terrorism Section.

Before submitting a request, confirm the status of the investigation by calling (213) 202-9880.

Requests must be submitted by mail

Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Media Requests

Media requests must be submitted through the Community Liaison Office (CLO).

California Public Records Act (CPRA) Requests

Medical/EMS records excluded

Submit online

Submit all CPRA requests through the LA City NextRequest Portal

Select “Fire Department (CPRA Request Only)” — attachments may be uploaded if applicable.
