The Legal Unit serves as the Fire Department’s primary liaison to the City Attorney’s Office for all criminal filings. Its core responsibilities include enforcing the Los Angeles City Fire Code to ensure that all buildings within the City of Los Angeles meet fire and life safety standards.
When a property is found to be noncompliant, the Legal Unit prepares criminal cases involving residential or commercial properties, including those related to illegal cannabis operations.
