Meters used to test for gases detected only the presence of methane (believed to be coming in from the ocean). Investigation; 01:16PM; 528 S Venice Bl; internal:/; Venice; LAFD and LAPD are in Unified Command for the investigation of numerous reports of smell of gas in the Venice area. SoCal gas are aware and have supervisors responding to the command post to assist. While SoCal gas employees are investigating the source, LAFD and LAPD are addressing any public safety concerns (no patients transported and no injuries reported). If a resident smells a gas leak, SoCal Gas encourages that customer to safely evacuate the area before calling SoCalGas at 800-427-2200, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Update Brush Fire 04/13/2018

Update Brush Fire; 12:06PM; Greek Theater x 2700 N Vermont; internal:/; Hollywood; #GriffithPark KNOCKDOWN 70FF in 45 mins. Fire contained to 1/2 acre (topography drive, uphill with no wind) with no injuries reported. Firefighters continue to create a 'scratch line' fully around the fire to address any hot spots remaining. Those at Griffith Observatory were asked to shelter in place with no evacuation deemed necessary. The Observatory is now fully re-opening with LAFD apparatus clearing. This stubborn fire was located in the walls on both the 2nd and 3rd floors which required extensive investigation and opening of walls to fully extinguished.
