Update Structure Fire; INC#0054; 02:47AM; 2230 E 1st St; https://bit.ly/2Zo0Bl4; Boyle Heights; KNOCKDOWN: 100 firefighters battled and extinguished the stubborn fire in two hours and 10 minutes. This was an extended operation due to the difficulty accessing all areas of the fire because of the roof collapse. No injuries reported. LAFD Arson Section is on scene for the cause investigation, per protocol for a fire of this size. The house, built in 1900, is approximately 2,300 square feet Victorian home with balloon style construction. This type of construction lacks fire blocks which allows the fire to quickly travel up the walls. Firefighters nearing knockdown of the fire on the 1st floor, however the fire remains burning on the 2nd floor. There is also limited access for the exterior water lines to reach the pockets of fire due to the roof collapse. A knockdown will not be called until the gas is off because it can feed the fire.
