Update Brush Fire #RockyFire 09/09/2018 INC#1047

Update #RockyFire Brush Fire; INC#1047; 08:45PM; 23000 W Santa Susana Pass Rd; internal:/; Chatsworth; The @LAFD @VCFD and @LACoFD fully contained the fire to 8.64 (eight-point-six-four) acres of grass and brush, with no structure damage; LAFD only will remain at scene this evening to check for hot spots; The fire's cause was determined to be the passenger vehicle that tumbled off Santa Susana Pass Rd (not the freeway), toppling a power pole and downing energized high voltage wires before catching fire; The vehicle's sole occupant, an adult M driver was able to climb out of the burning vehicle and up a brush covered hillside to the safety of a passing LAPD patrol unit, which removed him from greater harm as the flames spread; The injured driver, with 2nd and 3rd degree burns to hands, arms and legs was subsequently transferred at a remote location to the care of LAFD Paramedics who transported him to an area hospital in serious condition; No other injuries were reported; Santa Susana Pass Rd will remain closed in both directions between Rocky Peak Rd and Iverson Rd until firefighting and utility work is complete; There is no estimate of closure duration; All WB lanes of 118 Freeway are open; Until as late as 10:00 PM tonight, two lanes of the EB 118 Freeway will be closed between Rocky Peak Road and Topanga Canyon Blvd until LAFD freewayside operations are complete; Motorists who are traveling eastbound to depart Simi Valley are encouraged to remain on the 118 Freeway, and NOT attempt to use Kuehner Drive or Santa Susana Pass Road as a shortcut, as the EB onramp at Rocky Peak remains closed, and all such motorists will be required to go WESTBOUND on the 118 Freeway only; See LA County (West Valley) CHP Log #2446 and Ventura County (Moorpark) CHP Log #249 at http://cad.chp.ca.gov/ for additional information; FS 96; Batt 15; Valley Bureau; Council District 12; CH8; 13; Brian Humphrey

Update #RockyFire Brush Fire; INC#1047; 06:15PM; 23000 W Santa Susana Pass Rd; internal:/; Chatsworth; An aggressive and well coordinated air + ground response by @LAFD @LACoFD @VCFD personnel has stopped the forward progress of the fire, holding fire to an estimated 10 acres of grass and brush east of Rocky Peak Road and south of Ronald Reagan (SR118) Freeway; The driver of the civilian vehicle that left the (still unspecified) roadway, toppling electrical wires and apparently igniting the fire has been taken to an area hospital (by law enforcement?) with what are described only as severe burn injuries; The patient's age/gender/exact injuries and medical condition have not been specified; No other injuries reported; No structures threatened or damaged; Despite the collision and wires down, the fire's specific cause remains under active investigation; Motorists: Anticipate freeway/lane and road closures in area until FD operations complete; Unknown duration; Expect congestion and delay, avoid area and consider routes other than SR118 and Santa Susana Pass Road; Monitor traffic reports on news radio; LA County (West Valley) CHP Log #2446 and Ventura County (Moorpark) CHP Log #249; FS 96; Batt 15; Valley Bureau; Council District 12; Dispatched LAFD Units: BC10 BC15 BC17 CM42 E103 E104 E105 E106 E107 E28 E290 E296 E70 E72 E73 E8 E84 E87 E90 EM15 H3 H4 H5 HT1 RA106 RA107 RA90 T90 T96 UR88 WT77 WT88; - Brian Humphrey
