The below information is provided to assist the member with their development as a firefighter and better prepare them for future promotions. The material includes LAFD provided courses, State Fire Training classes and CICCS classes and Task Books.

Wildland (CICCS/NWCG)

  • Base Camp Manager

    • The Base/Camp Manager (BCMG) is responsible for appropriate sanitation and facility management services in the assigned Base or Camp.

  • Display Processor

    • The Display Processor (DPRO) is responsible for the display of incident status information obtained from field observers, aerial and ortho photographs, and infrared data.

  • Equipment Manager

    • The Equipment Manager (EQPM) provides service, repair, and fuel for all apparatus and equipment; provides transportation and support vehicle services; and maintains records of equipment use and service provided.

  • Emergency Medical Technician-Fireline

    • The EMTF provides emergency medical services (EMS) on an active fireline, division or other physically challenging assignment.  This position may also assist at the medical unit and/or other incident location as requested by the Incident Commander or representative.

  • Field Observer

    • The Field Observer (FOBS) is responsible for collecting incident status information from personal observations at the incident and providing this information to the Situation Unit Leader (SITL), Division Supervisor (DIVS), and other fireline resources as directed. The information may include but is not limited to, fire perimeter location, onsite weather, fire behavior, fuel conditions, and fire effects information needed to assess firefighter safety and whether the fire is achieving established incident objectives and requirements.

  • Helicopter Crewmember

    • The Helicopter Crewmember (HECM) is responsible for supporting the ground-based operations of the helicopter mission in a rapidly changing, high-risk wildland fire environment. The HECM is a member of a helicopter module and reports to the Helicopter Manager (HMGB).

  • Radio Operator

    • The Radio Operator (RADO) works in the Communications Unit, under the Logistics Section. The immediate supervisor for the Radio Operator is the Incident Communications Center Manager who manages the Incident Communications Center (ICC).

  • Receiving/Distribution Manager

    • The Receiving/Distribution Manager (RCDM) is responsible for receiving and distributing all supplies and equipment (other than primary resources) and the service and repair of tools and equipment.

  • Staging Area Manager

    • A Staging Area Manager is responsible for managing all activities within a Staging Area.

  • Status/Check-In Recorder

    • Status/Check-in Recorders (SCKN) are used at each check in location to ensure that all resources assigned to an incident are accounted for. (Where practical, employ Demobilization Unit Leader (DMOB) as a Status/Check-in Recorder to ensure complete information is obtained at check-in.)
