Deputy Chief Stephen Gutierrez is a Los Angeles native and proud graduate of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Chief Gutierrez joined the LAFD after graduating from California State University Long Beach as a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), Commissioned US Army Reserve Officer.
With over 30 years of experience, he has held the ranks of Firefighter, Engineer, Captain I, Captain II, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief, and Deputy Chief. He has continued his educational path, attaining a second Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership.
He currently serves the residents of Los Angeles as the Commander of the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Training and Support Bureau and is responsible for the management of critical areas of the organization, including the Training Division, Supply and Maintenance Division, Regional Training Group, Facilities Maintenance Section, as well as overseeing all sworn and civilian training development, including recruitment, professional development, budget, procurement, and infrastructure support for Department-wide operations.
Has influenced, led, and partnered with all levels of government, non-profit business and community leaders for the past 30 years while serving the LAFD.
He is most inspired by and proud of the work done over the years working with youth within the local community and the first LAFD/Los Angeles Unified School District Banning High School Fire Magnet Program.
