Update Structure Fire 01/12/2017

Update Structure Fire; 11:30PM; 4918 E MENDOTA AV; internal:/; A 72 y/o male was rescued from the 1st story of a split level home. He was found by firefighters behind a window with security bars, unable to get out (It is not immediately known as to why he was unable to get out). Firefighters quickly cut the bars and pulled him outside the burning home to safety. We are pleased to say he was transported to a local hospital in good condition. There was excessive storage inside the home and it is not immediately known if there were functional smoke alarms. Update Investigation 01/12/2017

Update Investigation; 03:22PM; LA RIVER X N LOS FELIZ BL; internal:/; A LAFD Swift Water Team boarded an inflatable boat and strategically crossed the river, located a blue sleeping bag near bamboo on an island, and confirmed no one was inside. Firefighters removed the bag to thwart any additional concerned citizens calling 911. A LAFD helicopter thoroughly flew over the area and ensured no victims were stranded on the island. Update Investigation; 04:09PM; 8189 W Gould Av; internal:/; Hollywood; Last expected update from LAFD: The house (built in 1925) is red tagged by LA Building and Safety and may not be occupied. The houses on each side (one to the north, one to the south) are yellow tagged. The occupants may stay in the home but may not go into the backyard. There is not yet a timeline for reopening of N Laurel Canyon Blvd. LAFD resources are clearing the scene and all further decision making is via Building and Safety. Update Investigation 01/11/2017

Update Investigation; 03:04PM; 8189 W Gould Av; internal:/; Hollywood; Approximately 9000lbs piece of concrete from the foundation and retaining wall of the home detached and slide down hillside to N Laurel Canyon Blvd below. No injuries due to the prior closure of the road. Building and Safety with their Geologist are on scene and re-evaluating the situation given the new circumstances. Currently, the reported home is Red Tagged with the neighboring home (to the south) yellow tagged. Those could change based on the re-assessment. LAFD are placing sand bags to divert water with the expected rains this evening. Once the roadway is deemed safe, Street Services will begin the clearing process. LAFD resources providing assistance and ensuring safety. N Laurel Canyon Blvd remains CLOSED from Gould Ave to Kirkwood. Duration of closure not yet determined.
