Firefighters responding to a vegetation fire Sunday evening, discovered a dead body while battling the blaze.
The Los Angeles Fire Department was summoned at 9:41: PM on September 14, 2014 to 1111 South Harvard Boulevard in the Harvard Heights area of Los Angeles. Firefighters arrived quickly to find shrubs and debris burning intensely within a temporary security fence that surrounded a long vacant home. While battling the blaze, a firefighter discovered a burnt person outdoors among the debris, who proved beyond medical assistance.
The flames were quickly extinguished before the boarded-up residence or nearby homes sustained any damage. No other injuries were reported.
The age, gender and identification of the dead person - as well as the cause, time and manner of their death, will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.
The cause of the fire itself remains the focus of a joint investigation by the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department.
