Knockdown #OceanFrontFire Greater Alarm Structure Fire; INC#0289; 08:36AM; 723 S Ocean Front Wk; https://bit.ly/3shttIh; Venice; 116 LAFD firefighters took 2 hrs 17 min in largely defensive firefighting operations to extinguish active flame in a 68 year-old, two-story, 6,952 square-foot commercial structure that was vacant when an outside fire at a homeless encampment on the south side of the building extended into the structure - and briefly threatened, but was prevented from damaging 2 nearby structures. Any contents within the heavily damaged and now unstable fire building have yet to be identified. No injuries reported. Media is asked to access via Brooks Avenue. NOTE: Media aircraft should be aware a non-tethered LAFD drone in official use at an altitude of less than 150' in the vicinity of the fire. There are still 116 LAFD personnel in ongoing defensive firefighting operations at what is now described as a two story, 6,952 square-foot *COMMERCIAL ONLY* structure (no residential), built in 1953, and vacant when an outside fire this morning at a homeless encampment on the south side of the building extended into the structure - and briefly threatened, but was prevented from damaging 2 nearby structures. This fire, which has escalated to greater alarm status, is known as the "Ocean Front Fire". No injuries have been reported. The fire was held to less than 1.5 acres. No structures were threatened. Crews are working up the steep terrain and have hand lines in place 100% around the burn. No injuries reported.
